Reviewing The Volvik Vivid Golf Balls
In-Depth Review: Volvik Vivid Golf Balls
Volvik is a brand known for pushing the boundaries of golf ball design, and the Vivid line is a testament to that innovation. Known for its striking colors and unique matte finish, the Volvik Vivid has captured the attention of golfers looking for something different on the course. But how does it perform?
Explore with Golf Circuit the Volvik Vivid golf ball’s construction, performance in the long game, spin, compression, and the type of golfer who would benefit most from using this colorful golf ball.
The Volvik Vivid golf ball stands out immediately due to its vibrant color options and matte finish. These aesthetic choices are not just for show; they enhance visibility both in the air and on the ground, making it easier for golfers to track their shots and find the ball in various conditions. Available in boxes on a single colors including bright red, green, blue, pink, yellow, orange, purple, and even black, the Vivid is marketed towards players who want a combination of performance and visual appeal. Volvik also offers the option of an assorted box of colored golf balls in yellow, red, green and orange. We’re not quite sure who would buy the black colored balls, but they are an option.
If you’re someone who needs a brightly colored ball that can be easily spotted from great distances, this is the perfect golf ball for you.
We liked the alignment side stamp for putting. The design allows golfers to use all three lines to line up a putt and then easily focus on the single center line during the putt itself.
Construction
The Volvik Vivid is a three-piece golf ball which means it is composed of three distinct layers:
- Core: The core of the Volvik Vivid is made from a high-resilience material designed to maximize energy transfer at impact. This helps generate higher ball speeds, particularly beneficial for distance shots.
- Mantle: Surrounding the core is a resilient mantle layer that helps control the spin and enhances the overall feel of the ball. This layer plays a crucial role in balancing distance with control, especially in the short game.
- Cover: The outer layer is a soft, durable ionomer cover that features a unique matte finish. This cover is designed to provide a soft feel around the greens while also maintaining durability over time.
The matte finish is a significant aspect of the Vivid’s construction, as it reduces glare and provides a consistent spin profile, even in varying weather conditions.
Performance in the Long Game
We have found that the Volvik Vivid golf ball designed to deliver consistent and reliable performance off the tee and with long irons, delivers. Thanks to its high-resilience core, the ball offers impressive distance, particularly for golfers with moderate swing speeds. The three-piece construction allows for a balance between distance and control, providing a penetrating ball flight that helps maintain trajectory in windy conditions.
The Volvik Vivid golf balls are low-spin balls. On average, they have an rpm of 1,800 at a 2.5-degree side angle. If you have a slicing problem and want to avoid an unsuitable trajectory, these balls will help you achieve that.
The driver gives a pretty high ball speed. Faster than the average at about 160 mph. The balls also have huge carry. If your usual range is around 260 to 280 yards, you can expect to hit around 300 yards with the Volvik Vivid.
However, compared to some premium tour-level balls, the Vivid might not offer the same level of distance for players with extremely high swing speeds. It is tailored more towards golfers who have swing speeds in the range of 70-90 mph, which covers a significant portion of beginner and high handicap players.
Spin
One of the Volvik Vivid’s key features is its ability to generate a consistent spin profile. The ball produces a moderate spin rate off the driver, which helps reduce unwanted side spin and promotes a straighter ball flight. This is particularly beneficial for players who struggle with slices or hooks.
There is decent speed and carry with the mid-iron. The driver has a better carry at about 170 yards. We had a better than usual spin rate with the 7 iron.
The low spin really makes itself felt with the sand wedge. No shot exceeded 9,000 rpm. You are probably not that concerned with the ball coming to an abrupt stop if you are a beginner.
In the short game, we felt that if you are an experienced player wanting to make the ball move on the green, you will have to work a lot harder than usual.
The ionomer cover does not generate as much spin as a urethane cover would, which means it may not offer the same stopping power as other golf balls. This could be a consideration for you players who prioritize maximum spin and control in their short game.
Compression
Volvik Vivid golf balls have a mid-range compression of around 85 (according to Volvik), which positions it as a versatile option for a wide range of golfers. The balls have a softer core, yet the outer layer is quite dense. This makes for a ‘hard’ feel while playing. You get a higher ball speed, and the shots are much more direct, albeit with lower spin. This compression level is ideal for players with moderate swing speeds, as it allows for enough deformation at impact to generate good ball speed.
Lower compression balls typically offer more distance for slower swing speeds, while higher compression balls are better suited for faster swings. The Vivid’s 75-85 compression falls in the mid-range of hardness, making it a good all-around choice for golfers who want a balance between distance, feel, and control.
Who Would Benefit from the Volvik Vivid?
We feel that the Volvik Vivid is well-suited for golfers who:
- Have moderate swing speeds: The Vivid’s construction and compression make it ideal for players with swing speeds in the 70-90 mph range, allowing them to maximize distance and control.
- Value visibility: The bright, matte finish makes the ball easier to spot in the air and on the ground, which is beneficial for players who play in various lighting conditions or struggle with losing track of the ball.
- Prefer a softer feel: Golfers who prioritize a softer feel, especially in their short game, will appreciate the Vivid’s responsiveness around the greens.
- Seek consistency: The Vivid’s ability to produce a consistent spin profile and its stable flight characteristics make it a reliable choice for players looking to improve their accuracy and control.
Volvik Vivid certainly has the edge in terms of novelty in design, the patented finish, and better performance for players with a slow swing. For those looking to stand out on the course while also benefitting from a reliable and well-constructed golf ball, the Volvik Vivid is a strong versatile option particularly for players with moderate swing speeds. While it may not offer the same spin control as premium tour balls, the Vivid provides a solid all-around performance that can help many golfers improve their game.
Advanced Construction for Performance
The Volvik Vivid is a three-piece golf ball, meticulously engineered to deliver optimal performance. The core is made from a high-resilience material that maximizes energy transfer upon impact, which translates to higher ball speeds and impressive distance, especially for golfers with moderate swing speeds. The ball’s construction makes it a versatile option for a wide range of golfers, offering a balanced performance that caters to both distance and control.
Who Should Choose the Volvik Vivid?
The Volvik Vivid is perfect for golfers who have moderate swing speeds, value high visibility, and prefer a softer feel in their short game. It is also ideal for those who seek a reliable and consistent performance on the course. While it may not offer the same level of spin control as premium tour-level balls, the Volvik Vivid provides a solid all-around performance, making it a great choice for golfers looking to improve their game with a ball that combines innovation, performance, and visual appeal
