Putting is the area of the game that matters the most when it comes to your score. If you can become a great putter, chances are your scores will be considerably lower.

Many golfers struggle on the putting greens and think it is because of their stroke or inconsistency. Although this can be part of it, sometimes it is simply the putter you are using.

High MOI putters are becoming more and more popular. I recently tested quite a few of these putters, and these are my top five best high MOI putters for 2023.

What Is A High MOI Putter?

A high MOI putter is simply a forgiving putter. The MOI stands for the moment of inertia. MOI measures how much a putter face resists turning and twisting when the ball is hit anywhere but the center of the club face.

When you strike a perfect putt and hit the center of the face, forgiveness is not a concern.

However, most golfers cannot do this every time. Therefore, having a putter that gives you a bit of wiggle room should you miss the center is a much better selection.

When you are looking for high MOI putters, you will find that they are often called forgiving putters, or putters that are designed to help with bad hits.

It’s common to hit the ball on the heel or toe when you take your putting stroke, so a large majority of golfers can benefit from a higher MOI in the putter head.

Who Needs a High MOI Putter?

A high MOI putter is best for those inconsistent in their putting stroke.

If you notice that you miss one putt three feet left and the next is three feet short, chances are you are striking the ball at different areas on the clubface. This causes problems in consistency and will require you to get more accurate.

However, by putting a higher MOI putter in place, you may not have to work quite as hard on the accuracy; in fact, you can probably miss the sweet spot quite a bit and still get a good result.

I would like to say that any player can benefit from high MOI putters, but the higher handicappers and beginners certainly need this technology the most.

5 Best High MOI Putters of 2023

Now that you have a better understanding of what a high MOI putter is, here are a few of the best ones I tried. Each of these has some unique performance attributes.

There are both blade and mallet high MOI putters on the market.

Odyssey Golf Ten Putter Two Ball Triple Track

The Odyssey Golf Ten Putter Two Ball Triple Track was my favorite option for a high MOI Putter. This putter has been updated in the Eleven model, but they are pretty similar, and this one has a slightly better price point.

With this putter in your hands, it’s truly hard to miss. The shape helps not only with alignment and accuracy but also with feel and consistency.

If you follow golf equipment, closesly chances are you remember the Odyssey Two Ball putter. This club was well received, and golfers everywhere saw the benefit of this alignment technology and feel.

Over the years, putter heads have gotten more forgiving, and these new Odyssey Ten Putters are much larger, have an even longer alignment line, and combine the STroke Lab Technology. Stroke Lab is a golf shaft that is partially steel and partially graphite, ensuring that the overall performance is a bit more consistent and stable.

Like we see with most Odyssey putters, the Microhinge Technology featured in the insert really helps improve the overall feel and create a repeatable stroke.

Pros

  • Improvements to the original 2 Ball to add more forgiving
  • Microhinge technology for better speed and control
  • Stroke Lab golf shaft
  • Triple Track design for improved alignment

Cons

  • A large putter head takes some time to get used to

Cobra Golf King 3D Agera

The Cobra King 3D Printed putters were a surprise addition to the market. It wasn’t expected for them to be quite as good as they were, but golfers have been pleasantly surprised by the impact these putters have made on the market.

One of the most forgiving of the Cobra line is the Cobra Golf King 3D Agera. The club has a 3D-printed nylon lattice insert that helped Cobra reposition weight and get the putter to be quite a bit more forgiving.

With the SIK Descending Loft technology, there is also a ton of accuracy when using this club.

As with most of the new releases from Cobra, the King 3D Agera also has a Cobra Connet Grip. With this grip in place, you can track your putting performance and see if your game is truly improving.

Pros

  • Ability to track putting stats with Cobra Connect
  • Highest MOI in the Cobra line of putters
  • Oversized shape with a large sweet spot
  • SIK Descending loft technology

Cons

  • A unique putter shape is not great for a more traditional player

Spider Tour Black #3 Putter

The TaylorMade Spider putters have some of the best stability and feel in the game. The Spider line of puters is tour proven and known for being incredibly stable.

Most golfers struggle with vibration at impact, and it causes issues with the feel. With the Spider Tour Black #3, there is hardly any vibration at impact.

With the Spider Tour Black #3 putter, you will get a larger SuperSTroke GTR 1.0 Grip. The grip allows for even more stability in the hands, making it easier for golfers to repeat their putting strokes.

In addition, the Spider Tour Black #3 is a good looking putter; it’s certainly not the largest head of any of the putters in this group, making it an easier transition for golfers currently using a blade style putter.

Pros

  • Very stable at impact
  • Fair pricing for a Spider Putter
  • High MOI
  • Tour Proven design

Cons

  • Some golfers feel the putter is a little closed at setup

PXG 0211 Hellcat Putter

PXG started with the intention of making only the most high end equipment in the game. However, after a few years, they have learned that mixing in some affordable gear is a much better plan.

The PXG 0211 Hellcat Putter is a blade design with affordability and a great feel.

Two of the things that help the Hellcat Putter stand out are the Pyramix Face Patter technology and the Runway Reticle Alignment Aid. This may sound like overly complicated technology, but it means better alignment and a better feel.

With a blade putter, the weight of the putter head can be a concern, but the PXG 0211 Hellcat putter has 365 grams of weight, plenty to be effective on any green speed you encounter.

Pros

  • Heavy feel in the head for more consistency
  • The large sweet spot for a blade style putter
  • Top rail line for easier alignment

Cons

  • Feel is not quite as smooth as premium Odyssey putters

Cleveland HB Soft Premier #11

The Cleveland HB Soft Premier #11 is a great looking putter built for the mid to high handicapper looking for more forgiveness in their game. What I love about the Cleveland HB Soft Premier #11 is the Gray Satin Finish.

Cleveland has had some great putters in the last few years, but they never really had the look of the premium models on the market. The HB Soft Premier #11 looks sleek and boosts overall confidence on the golf course.

With the Precision Milled Face and Speed Optimized Face Technology, the MOI of this golf putter is quite high. In addition, you get two different grip options to choose from, one with a slightly enlarged size for bigger hands.

After trying this putter for a few rounds, the one word that keeps coming to mind is consistency. I think you will have a hard time finding something more consistent than this.

Pros

  • Great looking putter
  • Speed Optimized Face Technology
  • Precision milled face
  • Two grips to choose from

Cons

  • Feel off the face can be a little too soft for some golfers.

Final Thoughts

The next time you hear the term MOI you should have a little better idea of what it means and how it can help your golf game.

A high MOI putter is completely legal according to the USGA, so it makes sense to use this technology that is available to you.

I tested and really enjoyed the Odyssey Two Ball Ten Triple Track putter. The club checks all the boxes for the things players need to get more forgiveness.

Forgiving putters allow you to make more putts without sacrificing too much feel.

When given the option to make putting a little easier on myself, I always take it!
