If you’re like most people, you love the idea of being able to hit the open road on your motorcycle and explore new territory. But if you’re also a golfer, you know that few things are more frustrating than leaving your clubs behind.

You can’t very well lug them around on your back all day, as that could be a recipe for disaster.

But what if there was a way to take your clubs with you wherever you go? Believe it or not, there is. There are several ways to do it. Here are the six best methods for how to carry golf clubs on a motorcycle.

Golf Bag Rack

One of the most popular and convenient ways to carry golf clubs on a motorcycle is to use a golf bag rack. These racks are designed to fit onto the back of most motorcycles and provide a safe and secure way to transport your clubs.

There are a few things to remember when choosing a golf bag rack:

  1. You’ll want to ensure that the rack is compatible with your motorcycle.
  2. You’ll want to select a rack made from durable materials that can withstand the elements.
  3. You’ll want to ensure the rack is easy to install and remove.

With a golf bag rack, you can hit the open road with your clubs in tow and know they’re safe and secure.

You can always DIY your own if you don’t want to buy a golf bag rack. All you need is a length of rope or bungee cord and some imagination.

Tie the rope or cord around your golf bag and secure it to the back of your motorcycle. Just ensure the bag is securely fastened and won’t come loose while you’re on the road.

You want to ensure that your clubs are protected while riding, so ensure the bag is well-secured before heading out.

This one from 2X2 Cycles is a good option.

In addition, you don’t want any straps dangling where they could get caught on something and cause you to crash.

Pannier Bag

Another option for carrying golf clubs on a motorcycle is to use a pannier bag. Pannier bags are designed to fit on the side of a bike and can be used to store all sorts of things, including golf clubs.

When choosing a pannier bag, you’ll want to ensure that it’s large enough to fit your clubs.

You’ll also want to choose one made from durable materials with a sturdy bottom and a secure closure, as the last thing you want is for your clubs to go flying after you hit a bump!

Most pannier bags come with a shoulder strap, which makes them easy to carry when you’re not on your motorcycle. And if you’re worried about the bag getting dirty, you can always line it with a plastic trash bag.

Saddlebag

Another popular option for carrying golf clubs on a motorcycle is to use a saddlebag. Saddlebags are designed to attach to most motorcycles’ backs and provide plenty of space for storing your clubs.

However, you can’t just choose any saddlebag. You’ll want to ensure that the saddlebag is made from durable materials that can withstand the elements.

And you’ll also want to ensure the saddlebag is large enough to accommodate your clubs. What does that mean?

While many saddlebags are designed to hold other items such as clothes or camping gear, you’ll want to ensure that the one you choose has enough space for your clubs.

Sidecar

You might consider investing in a sidecar if you’re serious about taking your golf clubs on your motorcycle. Sidecars are attached to the side of a bike and provide a safe and secure way to transport your clubs.

I love sidecars since they offer the ultimate security and peace of mind when transporting my golf clubs, but if you go for this option you’ll need to modify your motorcycle to account for the change in weight distribution, and you’ll still need a way to tie down your clubs, so they don’t fly out of the sidecar with the first bump you hit in the road.

If you don’t want a sidecar, you could always get your own golf bike.

Trailer

Another option for carrying golf clubs on a motorcycle is to use a trailer that you tow behind your vehicle. Trailers come in various sizes, so you can choose one that’s just right for your needs.

Here are some things you’ll want on a motorcycle trailer for your golf clubs:

  • A cover to protect your clubs from the elements
  • Tie downs or straps to keep your clubs in place
  • Plenty of space for your clubs and any other gear you might want to bring along

Another great thing about trailers is that you can also use them to transport other gear, such as camping gear or extra clothes.

Your Back

You can always strap your clubs on your back if you don’t want to invest in a rack, saddlebag, sidecar, or trailer.

However, this isn’t the most comfortable option, and it’s certainly not the best way to transport your clubs if you’re riding for a long distance, such as to your next USGA championship.

But this might be an option if you’re going on a short ride or don’t mind being uncomfortable. Just ensure you have a way to secure your clubs so they don’t fall off while you ride.

Also, remember that with something like a bag of clubs on your back, you won’t be riding as safely as you could be since your balance will be thrown off.

To help maintain your balance, you might consider buying a lighter bag (like these Sunday golf bags) or investing in a backpack with built-in straps that go over your shoulders.

Golf Backpack

If you don’t like strapping your clubs straight to your back diagonally, you can always invest in a golf backpack. Golf backpacks are designed to distribute the weight of your clubs more evenly, and they often come with built-in straps that help to keep the backpack in place while you’re riding.

These packs store your clubs vertically so that you don’t have to worry about them taking up too much space, and they often come with compartments for storing other gear such as clothes or extra balls.

One thing to remember with golf backpacks is that they’re not always the most durable option, so you’ll want to make sure you choose one made from high-quality materials.

With a golf backpack, you’ll probably want to limit your rides to shorter distances since carrying your clubs on your back for a long time can get uncomfortable.

Golf Club Storage

Finally, if you don’t want to carry your clubs on your motorcycle, you can always pay to store them at your local club. This is an excellent option if you don’t often ride or don’t want to deal with the hassle of transporting your clubs.

Most golf clubs offer storage options, typically charging a monthly or yearly fee. While this might not be the most cost-effective option, it is the most convenient.

And if you like to play a round of golf now and then but don’t ride often, then it might be worth the price to have your clubs stored at your local club.

If you decide to go this route, make sure you choose a club close to where you live or work so that it’s easy to get to when you want to play.

Also, ensure the club you choose has a good reputation for taking care of its members’ belongings. The last thing you want is your clubs to get damaged or stolen while in storage.

Wrap Up

How to carry golf clubs on a motorcycle depends on your individual needs and preferences. For example, if you like to ride often and play a lot of golf, you might want to invest in a rack, sidecar, or trailer.

But a backpack might be a better option if you only ride occasionally and don’t mind carrying your clubs on your back. And if you don’t often ride and don’t mind paying a fee, then storing your clubs at your local club might be the best option.

Whatever your choice, make sure you take the time to figure out what will work best for you. And once you’ve decided, be sure to take the necessary steps to transport your clubs properly so they stay safe and sound while you’re on the road.
